Kenneth Tennyson is GCA's governing board Chair. Kenneth is a Financial & Treasury Advisor specializing in treasury and financial risk management consulting. Kenneth has over 15 years leading and directing different organizational initiatives to improve global cash and liquidity, operations, and risk management at PwC, SunTrust, Robinson Humphrey, and United Parcel Services. Kenneth holds the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) credential from the Association of Financial Professionals (AFP) and has a M.S. degree in finance from Webster University George H. Walker School of Business & Technology.
eric cochling is executive vice president and general counsel for the georgia center for opportunity (gco), an independent, non-partisan, and solutions-focused nonprofit, whose mission it is to create opportunities for a quality education, fulfilling work, and a healthy family life for all georgians. prior to joining gco, he was in private practice for eight years with a focus on business formation, real estate, contract negotiations, estate planning, and civil disputes.
eric is a licensed attorney in the state of georgia and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the university of georgia and his juris doctorate and master’s degree in public administration from georgia state university. eric has served on a number of boards and is currently on the founding board of the other side academy – atlanta. he and his wife have three children and serve as children ministry coaches at their church.
amos johnson jr. phd leads and pastors church for entrepreneurs, a church without walls that equips believers across the world to succeed at their god-given entrepreneurial calling by teaching them the word of god from and entrepreneurial perspective, providing them with godly counsel along their entrepreneurial journey and praying for their success. dr. johnson is also an associate professor in computer science at morehouse college in atlanta, georgia.
andrew, an education and political consultant, worked for the georgia charter schools association (gcsa) for over 12 years, the last six as executive vice president over advocacy and policy. andrew has been instrumental in the passage into law of numerous charter school related bills, including the 2009 “georgia charter schools commission act,” allowing for a statewide alternative authorizer of charter schools. after the georgia charter schools commission act was declared unconstitutional in 2011 by the georgia supreme court, andrew played a pivotal role in reestablishing this statewide alternative authorizer of charter schools by passage of a constitutional amendment. the “charter amendment” as it came to be known, received the necessary two-thirds majority by the georgia house and senate before receiving nearly 60% approval by georgia voters in november 2012. this was the first statewide, charter school specific referendum to be passed in united states. after nearly a decade in the sports entertainment industry, andrew pursued a career in education, first as a classroom teacher, then with gcsa. andrew left gcsa in the fall of 2017.
juliann sergi mcbrayer, ed.d. is an assistant professor and program director in p-12 educational leadership at georgia southern university. she holds a doctorate and educational specialist from georgia southern university, a master’s degree from ohio university, and a bachelor's degree from suny college at buffalo. she has served 20 years as an educational leadership assistant professor, educational program coordinator, instructional school leader, professional development and federal programs coordinator, classroom teacher and teacher leader. as a scholarly practitioner, her research interests include the development, implementation, and assessment of educational leadership and teacher preparation programs with a focus on purposeful, collaborative, and sustainable professional learning, specifically professional learning communities and programming to ensure effectiveness and accountability.
dr. karen terry is an assistant professor at valdosta state university in the department of teacher education, teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. her research interests include teacher leadership, education policy, and disruptive innovation. prior to moving to higher education, dr. terry was an academic administrator for k-12 online cyber academies and was a member of the 2007 inaugural faculty at gca. she began her teaching career in gwinnett county and then moved cobb county. dr. terry has undergraduate degrees from florida state university and emory university. she received a master’s of education from mercer university and education leadership certification from valdosta state university. her doctoral degree is from walden university in the area of teacher leadership focusing on best practices in k-12 online learning.
